In our busy modern lives, full of visual stimuli, our eyes are often strained and tired, adversely affecting our vision and brain activity. Netra Tarpana gives nourishment to the eyes and has a relaxing effect on the eyes and surrounding tissues, removing impurities from the eyes. It is used for any kind of eye problemS - dryness, irritation, burning, eyestrain. It removes ama and clears the eyes. The eyes are a pitta organ, the secondary seat of pitta, and should never get hot. Netra Tarpana cools not only the eyes but also the brain.
During Netra Tarpana, you are wrapped in warm sheets and a blanket and a soothing facial massage begins. Warm, moist towels are wrapped gently around your face. Dough rings are then placed around your eyes and filled with special cooling oils or ghee to soothe and bathe the eyes, releasing stresses, tensions, impurities - ama - and fine lines. When you open your eyes, your vision is bathed in a golden glow and you do some simple eye exercises to help the ghee take its effect. This may sound like a strange proces, but it does have a surprisingly relaxing effect and it certainly makes you realise how much tension is stored in the eyes. Other imbalances that can benefit from Netra Tarpana include conjunctivitis, night blindness, cornea inflammation and other eye problems like itching, burning, dryness, strain or irritation.
